Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate
The Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate is a 30-credit program. Due to the New York Office of Alcohol and Substances Abuse Services (OASAS) regulations, the certificate is a selective program for students who have an earned degree in social sciences. Others can enroll in full AAS Human Services degree and complete the certificate along with the two-year degree. The program is designed to prepare students for starting or enhancing employment within the addictions field. All of the credit hours earned in the Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate program are transferrable to the Human Services A.A.S. Degree Program. Completion of the certificate will cover 265 hours of the 350 total, CASAC educational hours required for credentialing by OASAS.

Students who hold an Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate may:
- Begin credentialing to become an addictions counselor
- Apply the credits toward the Human Services A.A.S. degree
- Use the credits toward maintaining current credentials

Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate Scholarships Available Now!
The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) is offering scholarships to eligible New York State residents to take courses toward the Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counseling (CASAC) Certificate while also pursuing the college's two-year associate's degree in human services. This scholarship funding is made available through OASAS鈥� Addiction Professionals Scholarship Program which is funded by the New York State Opioid Settlement Fund. Such scholarships will assist individuals to either begin or advance their careers in the addictions services profession, and they will assist providers certified by OASAS, the Office of Mental Health, or the Department of Health with employee recruitment, retention, and professional development.
Bilingual/multilingual individuals are highly encouraged to apply. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until all scholarships are awarded.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:
- New York State residents who are at least 18 years of age with a minimum of a high school diploma or a high school equivalency (HSE) from an accredited institution and who are employees of one of the following (OASAS, OMH or DOH programs below will be prioritized to receive scholarships):
- OASAS-certified, funded, or otherwise authorized programs;
- OMH- and/or DOH-certified Integrated Outpatient Services (IOS-SUD); or
- DOH Drug User Health and/or Harm Reduction programs.
- After priority populations, the following will also be eligible:
- Individuals working within the addictions field (prevention, treatment, recovery, and/or harm reduction) in an eligible non-OASAS setting such as OMH and DOH programs not listed above and
- Individuals or students interested in working in eligible OASAS, OMH or DOH settings.
